Entry Requirements
As you prepare for your journey to the vibrant city-state of Singapore, here are the entry requirements to consider:
- Passport: Your passport must have at least six months of validity from your date of entry.
- Visa: Citizens from most nations can enter Singapore without a visa for tourism or business visits. However, this depends on your nationality and the length of your stay. Be sure to check your visa requirements prior to travel. Short term travellers holding a passport or travel document from a visa-required country/region must apply for a Visa. Visa-required travellers can use the Visa-Free Transit Facility for stay of less than 96 hours in Singapore, if eligible
- SG Arrival Card (SGAC) : All travellers must fill in the SGAC declaration up to 3 days before arrival. Only Singapore Citizens, Permanent Residents and Long-Term Pass Holders entering via land checkpoints do not need to fill in the SGAC
- Health: Produce an International Certificate of Vaccination for Yellow Fever, if you have visited any country at risk of Yellow Fever transmission in the past six (6) days before arrival in Singapore. Travellers must serve quarantine for up to six (6) days on arrival if they cannot meet the requirement.
- Customs regulations: Singapore has strict laws regarding the import of goods such as tobacco, alcohol, and certain medications. Familiarize yourself with Singapore’s customs regulations to ensure a smooth entry.
There are no longer any COVID-19 measures for travellers arriving in Singapore from 13 Feb 2023, regardless of vaccination status or traveller profile.
Crime
Singapore boasts one of the lowest crime rates globally, but it’s still important to be mindful of the following:
- General Crime: Petty crime like pickpocketing or theft is rare but can occur, particularly in crowded tourist areas. Keep your belongings secure at all times.
- Scams: Be cautious of potential scams, especially online. Exercise care when sharing personal information or conducting financial transactions.
Local Travel
- Public Transport: Singapore’s public transport system, including its MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) system and buses, is extensive, reliable, and user-friendly.
- Driving: If you’re planning on driving, an International Driving Permit is necessary if your license is not in English. Bear in mind, Singapore uses a system of Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) tolls.
- Walking and Cycling: Given Singapore’s compact size, walking or cycling can be an excellent way to explore the city.
Political Situation
Singapore has a stable political climate. Nevertheless, it’s essential to stay updated:
- Public Gatherings: Demonstrations are rare and require a police permit, ensuring public protests are generally peaceful and well-regulated.
- Travel advisories: Always check for any travel advisories issued by your home country for the most up-to-date information about Singapore’s political situation.
Remember, while exploring Singapore’s fusion of cultures, culinary delights, and futuristic architecture, it’s vital to respect local customs and regulations. Enjoy your journey through this dynamic city!
